Another strong man in British India. In the early 20th century, he was an undefeated wrestling champion of the world.

The cause of death of Gama Pehalwan was listed as a chronic heart disease. He died on 23 May 1960 in Lahore, Pakistan.

The Great Gama was a wrestler and a strongman in British India who made a name for himself as one of the world’s undefeated wrestling champions in the early 20th century.

Ghulam Mohammad Baksh Butt, commonly known as Rustam-e-Hind or ring name The Great Gama, was born on May 22, 1878 in Jabbowal village, Amritsar district, Punjab province, British India.

After the partition of India, wrestler Gama relocated to Lahore, Pakistan. After that, they faced difficulties in making a livelihood/money. She was not taken care of and had a brother named Iman Baksh. Gama was married twice. His wife’s name was Wazir Begum. With them, Ghulam Mohammad had nine children – five sons and four daughters. All of them died at a young age. The height and weight of Gama Pehelwan was 5 feet 7 inches and 110 kg respectively. His body measurements were 46″ chest, 34 waist and 22″ biceps.

After leaving wrestling, Gama suffered from asthma and heart disease. In the last moments of his life, Gama faced many financial obstacles. His financial condition became so bad that he had to sell his medals. Gama died on 23 May 1960 at the age of 82.

In his final days, Gama struggled to pay for his treatment. An industrialist and wrestling fan, GD Birla donated a monthly pension of INR 2000 and INR 300. The Government of Pakistan also supported his medical expenses till his death.

Muhammad Aziz Baksh was the father of Indian wrestler Gama Pehalwan. The Muslim wrestler also had a brother, Imam Baksh Pehelwan.

Gama married twice in his life; Wazir Begum and one more. He had five sons and four daughters. His granddaughter Kalsoom Nawaz is the wife of Nawaz Sharif. Kalsoom’s sister Saira Banu, who is also Gama’s granddaughter, is the wife of Jhara Pehalwan.
