Predictions
There were only four players who I think most of us would have considered ‘title contenders’. My final prediction of Tsitsipas is the result of why I doubt the chances of the other three contenders, contrary to my belief in last year’s finalists, because they are all in the same half of the draw and other factors which I will explain below. .
To many of us it seems strange that we don’t consider the 13-time champion the favorite to win again, but there are significant injury concerns currently surrounding Rafael Nadal. I also doubt his ability to achieve the Australian Open-French Open double within the same calendar year (which I personally believe is the harder the usually publicized French Open-Wimbledon double), mainly because his Don’t have an injury for that period.
I always advise against entering a big tournament on a long winning streak because you don’t need the added pressure of maintaining it while playing the biggest stages – for example at the 2020 US Open or the Tokyo Olympics in the spring. Examples like Djokovic. However, Carlos Alcaraz has entered the French Open on a 10-match winning streak with titles in Barcelona and Madrid. This combined with his inexperience at Grand Slam level (this is only his 6th Grand Slam main draw) makes me doubt his ability to win.
Schedule
On the women’s side, 2020 Roland Garros winner Inga Swietek is looking to add some more hardware this year. Svitek lost to Greece’s Maria Sakkari in the quarterfinals last year, but she rose to world No. 1 at this year’s event and rode a 28-match winning streak.

Draw
The draw for the 2022 French Open was announced on Thursday evening, with lots of interesting stories to unfold over the course of the fortnight. The three players who have done well this clay season are Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev. Same half of the draw. He is accompanied by Rafael Nadal, the king of soil. It has given runner-up Stefanos Tsitsipas a comparatively smooth ride to the final in Paris last year.
As always the goal of Djokovic and Nadal is to make history. The former is seeking to complete a triple career Grand Slam, while the latter is seeking a record 22nd Grand Slam title. Another major question is whether Alcaraz’s incredible rise will end with Grand Slam glory at the French Open. Players like Janik Sinner, Felix Auger-Aliassim and Casper Roode have all done well in the lead up to the tournament. If they step up their game, they are capable of taking out the big guns. Daniil Medvedev, who finally went through the first round at Roland Garros last year, will be looking for another good outing. On that note, let’s take a look at how the draw might unfold over the next few days.
