Rays
Somehow the only news that comes out during this lockout is about Atlanta Braves free-agent first baseman Freddie Freeman.
It seems like every week there’s a new report about how Freddie Freeman might be signing elsewhere and another team interested in him.
You don’t hear much about a lot of other free agents, and there are some other big names out there.
The latest news report states that the Tampa Bay Rays apparently made an offer to Freddie Freeman before the lockdown.
This may come as a surprise because the Rays aren’t usually among the high-priced free agents, but as MLB Trade Rumors points out, they don’t have a lot of money on the books and can actually make some money free. Are trading this season.
He locked his young, budding superstar as a shortstop at Vander Franco for 11 years.
Perhaps they feel like Freddie Freeman is the missing veteran piece who can take that young and talented group of players to the World Series.
It definitely makes a lot of sense when you look at it that way.
Still, it’s hard to imagine Kiran making a serious offer and paying a player that’s roughly $30 million a year for five or six years.
I can’t wait for the end of this lockdown so that we can put an end to the speculations. But it shows that there will be plenty of lovers for Freeman once the offseason returns.
Did sign with the braves

When the off-season first began, it seemed like a foregone conclusion that Freddie Freeman would return to the Atlanta Braves. After 15 years spent with the franchise, Freeman eventually led Atlanta to a World Series and, at age 32, remains one of the first basemen in the game.
Yet as the off-season gets underway, there has been more and more speculation that Freeman might actually move on, as the Braves were hesitant to meet their contract demands before the lockdown and after the lockdown. The latter may fail to do so again.
This suddenly opens things up for Freeman to become one of the most popular names on the market, as Carlos Correa is the only remaining free agent who could provide more influence than Freeman in the next season.
The Path to Free Agency
Freddie Freeman was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the second round of the 2007 MLB Draft from El Modena High School in California. It would then take only three years for Freeman to make his MLB debut as a September call-up in 2010 at the age of just 20.
Freeman struggled with very limited playing time in 2010, but that didn’t stop him from becoming a Braves opening day first baseman in 2011. A position he held in the last 11 seasons.
As a rookie, Freeman hit .282/.346/.448, with 21 home runs, 32 doubles and a 120 wRC. He finished second in Rookie of the Year voting his teammate Craig Kimbrel, who pitched for a 2.10 ERA and saved a league-leading 46 games for the Braves that season.
Freeman had a similar season in 2012, before experiencing a real breakout during the 2013 campaign, posting the first 5.0 fWAR season of his career. Still just 23 years old, Freeman hit .319/.396/.501, with a flimsy 150 wRC. It was the start of a nine-year run where Freeman has posted more than 130 WRCs every single season.
Free agency
As free agency resumes, the Yankees are expected to waste no time contacting representatives for star free agent first baseman Freddie Freeman, a person with knowledge of the situation told NJ Advance Media on Thursday. told.
The person spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly.
“He’s definitely still on the table,” said the person.
While the Yankees have heavily hit Luke Voight on the roster, Freeman is considered one of the best in the game in this position. A five-time All-Star, Freeman hit .300 for the Braves last year with 31 homers, 83 RBIs and .896 OPS in 159 games. The Yankees are looking to balance a lineup that was heavy-handed last season, and Freeman’s southpaw stroke could damage Yankee Stadium’s right field short porch.
Atlanta has been the home of Freeman for 12 seasons and helped him win the World Series in 2021. But the 32-year-old and the Braves were unable to agree a long-term deal before the lockdown began on December 2. The Dodgers are also expected to reach Freeman.
Atlanta reportedly offered Freeman a five-year, $135 million settlement, but the California native may want to secure a six-year deal closer to $200 million.
With the luxury tax threshold reaching $230 million thanks to the new collective bargaining agreement, the Yankees expect their 2021 payrolls to exceed $209 million.
The Yankees have also been in contact with agents for Anthony Rizzo, whom they acquired by the trade deadline in 2021. Rizzo would reportedly like to return to the Bronx and has spoken highly of playing at the Pinstrips.
