He and his girlfriend Erica Buffett have officially announced their engagement! Congratulations and best wishes to the soon to be Mr. and Mrs.

The 19-year-old was thought of as a solid prospect, but he hadn’t seen any AHL action yet, and he hasn’t set the WHL on fire in 2022-23, finishing with 67 points in 57 games. There’s a lot more to Minton’s game than just raw offensive production, but it’s not often you see a forward who is ranked 47th on the WHL points leaderboard make the opening night NHL roster.

Scouting report

Fraser Minten plays a simple but effective offensive style. He is a very North-South style player. Minton likes to come to the front of the net and scores most of his goals at the net. He can score with a tip-in, pounce on a rebound, or a quick one-timer. Minton has a good wrist shot and can release from forward, but he doesn’t use it often. Instead, he looks to move into high-danger scoring areas. Minton does a good job in the cycle game, getting the puck to teammates quickly and getting open for the return pass. He prefers to keep the puck moving and maintain possession in the offensive zone rather than trying to make creative but risky plays to create a scoring chance.
