A lifelong Columbia native and former AC Flora standout, Reese always thought Frank Martin was South Carolina men’s basketball. Reese’s dream was to play for Martin’s Gamecock – a dream he was able to fulfill this season as a graduate transfer. However, he knew that some corners of the fan base wanted Martin to go. But when Reese and his teammates left Tampa after their one-off performances at the SEC tournament last weekend, there was a general consensus among players that Martin’s job was secure.
Throughout the weekend, Reese peeped across the street from the on-campus apartment she shared with her partner Eric Stevenson and saw Martin’s car parked as usual in the men’s basketball offices. He never saw a Martin pack box or a neat desk—or do anything out of the ordinary. Nothing seemed unusual, even as Gamecock (18-13, 9-9 SEC) was surprisingly denied the NIT bid on selection Sunday after a few hours.
