Press conference
In his defense, it wasn’t really a recession. But it pointed to a deeper scrutiny of the effectiveness of his position.
Lampard has spent weeks telling anyone who will listen that he is good at handling pressure. And Kevin Keegan’s infamous “I’ll love it!” when calling out a reporter. Hardly a comparison. Rant – This proved that there is noise around the current Chelsea crisis.
It is to Lampard’s credit that he continued to question his job.
It was a press conference to preview the FA Cup fourth round match against Luton, yet the championship club barely received mention. Nor was there a single question about injuries, despite key players N’Golo Kante and Olivier Giroud having missed a midweek loss to Leicester.
He would later confess that he was “probably a little short with some of my answers to some people today. I know some things are bullshit.”
He also revealed that his wife Christine made fun of him after that punishing defeat at Leicester.
Post match interview
Patrick Vieira’s side rioted at Selhurst Park to book a semi-final match with Chelsea at Wembley the following month.
Marc Guhy, Jean-Philippe Mateta, Wilfried Zaha won and Will Hughes was on the scoresheet to seal an emphatic victory.
The scoreline is probably unfair on Everton and they started the better side in south London, something Lampard was quick to reflect.
He took it a step further, criticizing the quality of all four of the Palace’s goals.
The former England international said: “Quarterfinal of a Cup, really good start, control the game. Then we allowed a goal from one corner, then another average goal, a provisional goal and another average goal “
Lampard continued on Everton’s official website: “We came here to try to get to Wembley and we gave Palace a pass to get to the semi-finals. Palace didn’t play well and they won 4-0. . Players have got to take responsibility.”
Not exactly what you would call graceful in defeat.
Fans on social media have reacted to the clip and feel that Lampard’s attitude was bad enough.
