“I’ve been training for both football and boxing,” Gore told NFL.com. “I’ve always loved boxing, so that’s what I do. And we’re trying to put up a fight. If we do that, you’ll see me in the ring.”

Williams may not be a pushover rival to Gore, who is as well known for bulldozing his enemies as the NFL. UFC fighter Ryan Spahn said Williams “hooped my A-” in a previous sparring match, and Williams reportedly fought former NFL star-turned-UFC fighter Greg Hardy.

But according to a WSVN report in early October, Gore trains for two hours a day, six days a week, and has used boxing as an off-season workout since he was drafted. .

Gore has said in the past that he became interested in boxing after playing football, and now SI.com’s Chris Mannix reports that Gore is likely to fight on the Showtime card before the year ends.

One possible opponent is former NBA guard Daron Williams.

There has been a recent trend in the world of boxing to have people famous for other sports stepping into the ring. YouTuber Jake Paul has successfully fought against former NBA player Nate Robinson and former UFC fighters Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley. Paul’s brother Logan Paul had an exhibition fight with Floyd Mayweather, and former NFL player Chad Johnson fought on the undercard of that bout.

Gore won’t make as much money boxing as he did in the NFL, but there’s enough interest in this recent celebrity boxing trend that there’s probably some pay-off for Gore in the ring.

Frank Gore Hasn’t Retired From The NFL Yet…

The great running back is preparing for his next career if he doesn’t get a call from a football team.

Gore, 38, is ready to trade in his cleats for a pair of boxing gloves.

“I’ve been training for both football and boxing,” Rusher, the NFL’s third chief, told NFL.com. “I’ve always loved boxing, so that’s what I do. And we’re trying to have a fight. If we do that you’ll see me in the ring.”

Sparring is nothing new for the former San Francisco 49ers, Indianapolis Colts, Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins and New York Jets. He boxed to stay in shape.

“I just fell in love with how hard it is,” Gore said. “I felt like, ‘Man, I can’t fight.’ And I’ve always loved a challenge. So I kept doing it and kept doing it and I saw myself getting better and better.”

If he does wind up in a pro bout, he will follow other NFL players such as Ed “Too Tall” Jones, Alonzo Highsmith, Tom Zabikowski, and Mark Gastino.
