59-year-old Frank Bruno reveals he was split for six weeks during lockdown
Former world heavyweight champion remains in hospital in Luton and Central Bedfordshire
He said he ‘hit rock bottom’ and felt like a prisoner in his own home in lockdown
Former world heavyweight boxing champion Frank Bruno has admitted to being sectioned during lockdown following a breakdown.
Bruno, 59, said he broke down due to the loss of friends due to Covid and lockdown stress and was taken under the Mental Health Act section.
The former boxer, who has bipolar disorder, was taken by police to the mental health unit of Luton and Central Bedfordshire Hospital on June 28, 2020, and remained there for six weeks after fears about his safety grew, The Sun reports.
Frank said: ‘This has been the hardest and most terrifying time of my life. I hit rock bottom and suffered a breakdown.
Is still alive
The fake report has led to several calls to the manager of the 60-year-old, who is due to appear in Sheffield on Saturday night for an event with fans.
Much to the relief of Frank’s supporters, they took to social media to reassure him that he was safe and sound.
In a Twitter post shared on Saturday morning, he said: “In the morning, I was amazed to see yesterday that I was dead!”
He later added: “Chill. I’m alive and well and writing my Christmas cards and working tonight and looking forward to meeting my fans in Sheffield.”
Last month, Bruno told The Sun how he was celebrating his 60th birthday.
In it, he revealed that he considers Tyson Fury the most inspirational sports star on the planet.
First wife
The game’s protagonist, Frank Bruno, was reportedly struggling to save his marriage last night. The 36-year-old former world heavyweight champion and his wife Laura (34) are said to be still in love and trying their best to solve their problems.
The couple, who lived together for 16 years and married since 1990, saw their problems make headlines, with reports that Laura had won a court order banning her from assault. Laura is said to have secured the High Court order, which friends reportedly described as a series of rows and violent outbursts between the couple.
Henry Brandman, a family lawyer and friend of Brunos, confirmed yesterday that there were difficulties in the marriage but said neither separation nor divorce proceedings were being considered.
Mrs Bruno was reported to have received a “non-molestation” order from a judge while her husband was at a “people’s luncheon” to celebrate the golden wedding of the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh.
