Franklin Roy Bruno, MBE (born 16 November 1961) is a British former professional boxer who competed from 1982 to 1996. He had a highly publicised and eventful career, both in and out of the ring. The pinnacle of Bruno’s boxing career was winning the WBC heavyweight title from Oliver McCall at a packed Wembley Stadium in 1995, in what was his fourth world championship challenge. BBC VIEWERS have praised Frank Bruno for speaking out about his mental health in a candid interview with Fern Britton.
During a repeat episode of the BBC interview which aired on Sunday, Frank spoke with Fern about his rise from a tough schoolboy to being a world heavyweight champion. During the chat, which originally aired in 2012, Frank admitted the biggest fight he had ever had to face was his mental illness. The boxer turned to religion and explained his faith helped him to get through that battle. Following the candid interview, viewers took to social media to praise Frank for being so “brave”.
