Evgeni malkin Vladimirovich Malkin (Russian born 31 July 1986) is a Russian professional ice hockey center and alternate captain for the Pittsburgh Penguins. . Nicknamed “Geno”, Malkin began his career with his hometown club Metallurg Magnitogorsk, playing for their junior and senior teams. He was then selected second overall in the 2004 NHL Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins, although an international transfer dispute delayed the start of his NHL career until 2006.

Injury
The 34-year-old injured his right knee on March 16 against the Boston Bruins and did not return until May 3 for the final four games of the regular season. In the Islanders Series, Malkin hardly looked like himself, scoring just one goal in four games with four assists after missing the first two.
The Russian center was slightly down in the middle of the year at the time of his injury. He played just 33 games during the regular season and scored 28 points (eight goals, 20 assists), winning 42.5 percent of his faceoffs.

The Russian media personality was born as Anna Romanovna Kasterova on 21 September 1984 in Zelennograd, Moscow Russia, where she was also raised. Penguin announced Friday night that Malkin had undergone surgery on his right knee.
Malkin, who played in Games 3, 4, 5 and 6 of the team’s series against the Islanders, scored 1 goal and 4 assists in the four matches he played,
Prior to the post season, Malkin was sidelined after being injured in a game against the Bruins on March 16.
The team announced that Malkin is not expected to be available when the team begins training camp in September.
The team also said that they hope there will be a more clear time frame for when he can return when training camp is held.
Malkin is set to move into the final year of his current contract with Penguins, which hits a $9.5M AAV cap.
