Evander Kane has a history of gambling. He gambled freely at the table game in a Las Vegas casino. In April 2019, he failed to pay the $500,000 casino marker from The Cosmopolitan while he was in town for a playoff series against the Vegas Golden Knights. Cosmopolitan filed a complaint in November 2019 and the case was dropped by the casino in 2020.

In January, Kane filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. As part of his legal filing, he claimed to have lost $1.5 million gambling “in the casino and through bookies” in the 12-month period leading up to his bankruptcy petition. According to Cap Friendly, Kane’s lifetime earnings in the NHL are less than $56 million. He has three years on a $49 million contract with the San Jose Sharks with $26 million remaining on it.

The day before he was officially introduced as a member of the Edmonton Oilers, Evander Kane detailed an altercation he had with the Sharks’ former associate coach Rocky Thompson last season, when the team’s power-play There was a disagreement between the two during one of the meetings.

In an interview with TSN in Canada, which aired Thursday, Kane said he was challenged by a coach to a fight last season after a power-play meeting. Kane did not name the coach, but Thompson was the Sharks ally responsible for the Sharks’ power play last season.

Kane said with a small laugh, “We were just giving our opinion on what we could do better, and I gave my opinion one at a time, and I think our assistant coach, he probably didn’t agree with that. ” “Anyway, the meeting was over, we were all kind of getting dressed up, chatting afterwards, and he came back to the locker room with his shirt on, flexing and all kinds of hype and what not, and was challenging me to a fight.

“So it was interesting. I didn’t really react. Some people are laughing, thought it was funny. I thought he was joking, to be honest. I didn’t think he was being serious It was amazing for an assistant coach to do that.”

The controversy was first reported by The Athletic last summer.

Sharks coach Bob Boffner said the incident was exaggerated.

“There will be discussions and arguments or disagreements between players and coaches all the time within the four walls of our dressing room,” said Boffner, who said he was not even in the power play meeting. “If this had been a real serious situation, I think I would have known of this much earlier and would have obviously addressed it.

“But I don’t think it was anything drastic. It was a disagreement and an argument and that stuff happens all the time.”

Kane was said to be surprised to see that details of the brawl had been leaked. Logan Couture and Tomas Hertl both said they were not a part of that meeting.
