Hometown
Neil was born on 19 September 2000 in Okeechobee, Florida. He originally attended Okeechobee High School before transferring to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.
Box jump
Neil is a 6-foot-7, 337-pound offensive lineman who could go No. 1 overall in the NFL Draft Thursday night. NFL organizations are drooling in their rare combination of massive size and elite athleticism. Last summer, before his junior year in Alabama, he positioned himself between two 48-inch foam plyo boxes, and instead of landing on just one box — the way normal people can reach very few box jumps — Neil easily jumped a split box. ,
Neil jumped 36 inches as a sophomore, and then Dr. Matt Rhea and Dave Ballu, Crimson Tide’s director of sports science and director of sports performance, respectively, challenged them to go higher.
“He’s big, he’s physical, he’s consistent, and you can’t teach him, man,” said Duke Mannyweather, a personal offensive line coach who has known Neil since he was in high school and from the draft. Highlights
It wasn’t too long ago that Alabama OT Evan Neal was the betting favorite of the Jacksonville Jaguars to go No. 1 overall. While this is no longer the case, Neil is still in a good position to be selected in the top 5.
A rumor recently surfaced that Neil’s therapy scared some teams but more respected media members said it was false. Neil’s camp has also worked hard, calling the report untrue. It sounds like a lot of smoke, so I’m not worried that Neil will slip on draft day.
The Jaguars, Houston Texans, New York Jets and New York Giants round out the top 5, all desperate to help the offensive line. Neil and Ikem Ekwonu of NC State are fighting to be the first offensive lineman on the board.
Houston appears off on an offensive tackle at three. However, if the Texans decide to go with Ekwonu, it will be difficult for both the Jets and the Giants to cross the Nile. Those three teams together dropped 135 sacks last season and all invested in the young quarterback.
Another reason I like Neil’s Under is that it is a weaker quarterback class. Usually one or two quarterbacks are picked in the top 5 but this year it will not happen. After QB, the two most iconic players are pass rushers and left tackles. Look for those two positions to dominate the first five picks.
