The UEFA Europa League (abbreviated as UEL), formerly the UEFA Cup, is an annual football club competition organized since 1971 by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) for qualified European football clubs. It is the second tier competition of European club football, below the UEFA Champions League and above the UEFA Europa Conference League. The UEFA Cup was a third-tier competition from 1971 to 1999 before the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup was discontinued, and is still often referred to as “C3”. Clubs qualify for the competition based on their performance in their national league and cup competitions.

Thierry Henry has admitted to worrying about how the team’s lack of depth will affect Arsenal and their chances of winning the Europa League.

The Gunners are back in Europe after fully concentrating on their domestic duties. They could have found a place in the Champions League, but Tottenham overtook them in the top four of the Premier League.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta invested heavily later this summer. He wanted to improve the mindset of his team to face the pressure situations and strengthen his team for European football.

New striker Gabriel Jesus has entered the field running alongside Bukayo Saka. Meanwhile, Martin Odegaard is well prepared for his new role as captain.

Still, Arsenal legend Henry fears that, with the top-four once again a priority, the Europa League rotation could damage Arteta’s side in Europe.

“I worry about the Europa League. Why? Because of the depth of the team,” the former striker told CBS Sports.

“I think the starting XI is pretty good, but when you’re going to go into those games at one point during the season, a long season, it can be a bit much. But I can see a team and the solidarity and I like it.”

Henry said he was “hoping” Arsenal would beat Manchester United, but the Red Devils “deserved” their 3-1 win at Old Trafford in the end.

And he pointed to concerns raised by other observers – how “emotional” Arsenal was after beating Fulham and Aston Villa.

Groups

Each club must submit two lists of players, which will include details such as shirt number, date of birth and nationality. The association is required to submit a maximum of a 25-member List A squad to be verified, validated and forwarded to UEFA by 24:00 CET on Friday 2 September.

The same procedure applies to List B for players born after 2000 who have been on the club’s books for two or three years (full details are available here). These must be submitted no later than 24:00 CET the day before each match.

Can clubs change their team again this season?
Yes… if they reach the knockout stage. Clubs can register a maximum of three new players until 24:00 CET on February 2, before the play-offs for the knockout rounds. However, the 25-person limit remains.

Groups

Manchester United have confirmed their 25-man squad for the Europa League group stage.

The Red Devils begin their European campaign at Real Sociedad on Thursday, while they will also take on the Moldovan sheriff and Cypriot outfit Omonoia.

United are on the hunt for their second Europa League title – with which they will secure a spot in next season’s Champions League pot – and Ten Haag has named his team for the group stage.

Cristiano Ronaldo remains in the squad, despite his insistence on being sold by the Champions League side and sporadic reports that he could also be dropped from United’s Europa League roster.

Notable absentees are Phil Jones and Brandon Williams, who have spent much of Ten Haig’s short reign so far injured.

However, similarly injured pair Axel Tuenjbe and Faasundo Pallistri are in the squad, while Anthony Elanga has not been named explicitly as he is eligible for selection through UEFA’s B list due to his home status and age.
