The 29-year-old is the first American to win an individual speedskating medal since 2010. First American woman to do so since 2002. And, according to US Olympic and Paralympic Committee historian Bill Mallon, the first black woman to win gold. An individual sport in the Winter Olympics, period.

“Hopefully it will have an effect,” Jackson said. “Hopefully we can see more minorities, especially in the United States, coming out and trying some of these winter sports.”
In January, Jackson turned his attention away from the Games and noted the impact of female astronaut Sally Ride on going into space. She said that suddenly, more girls showed interest in math and science.

“No one was stopping those young girls from studying space first, but they saw someone else doing it and then they were inspired,” she said. “So I hope I can be an inspiration for someone to go out there and try something new.”

Jackson said she also hopes to be an inspiration to young athletes who are caught in the tug-of-war between sport and academia.

Jackson’s gold was the first medal for an American speedskator in Beijing and made her the first African American to win a medal in her sport. Jackson, also known as Speedy or E.J. is called. by her peers, is a skilled in-line skater who took her first unstoppable steps on the ice in 2016 in the Netherlands, where she spent three months training for in-line skating. She qualified for the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics after four months of training, finishing 24th in the 500 meters there.

Jackson has become the most influential 500m skater in the world over the past few months. Most of the 2020-21 speedskating season was wiped out by the coronavirus pandemic, and she missed a few races, which were held like the World Championships, after a bungee cord broke and an eye injury caused surgery. was required.

Booty

Juvana Man, booty call, don’t be a threat to South Central while drinking your juice in the hood – I could go on but do I really need to? I wish I had taken a picture of the first screen detailing this movie. This said something to the effect of this film … “mixing the best aspects of beauty shop and barbershop”. Not only does it fall short of respecting – what this film feels in comparison to – cinematic masterpieces, it tries too hard to tackle a lot of social issues. I didn’t from the start, but at the time I was seeing the characters addressed:

Corruption within the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences
Why did Billy Bob Thornton humiliate a black woman for winning an Oscar?
Don’t ask don’t tell unfairness
gay bashing
domestic and emotional abuse
Women who “use their bodies as objects” to get expensive gifts
A history lesson on the contributions of black inventors to American society.
Oh, and there were brokers and there may be.

Erin Jackson made history by becoming the first black woman to win an individual Olympic gold medal in speed skating, reports CNN. She claimed the top prize on Sunday with a time of 37.04. Jackson pulled out of the line and essentially won gold in the first 100 meters, before negotiating the first turn. His opening split was 10.33 seconds, compared to 10.41 for Takagi.

It was the same margin in the end as well.

“When it comes to the 500, it’s a matter of hundredths and sometimes thousandths of a second,” said Jackson’s coach Ryan Shimabukuro while he’s on the ice. “I knew he had the pace and it was going to come to the opener. When I saw that he opened in 10.3, which is the fastest ever, I knew we had a chance to sleep.”

Jackson maintained his momentum through the first turn, straight down the crossing, and through the final turn, even though each move brought more and more pain. Both hands were swinging furiously as they came straight down the finals of the shortest race in speedskating.

As his skates crossed the line, Jackson’s head turned to the scoreboard.

She broke into a big smile when she saw a “1” beside her name, her timing 0.08 faster than Takagi’s. Shimabukuro pumped her arms and slapped Jackson’s hands as she glided.
