Arkansas men’s basketball coach Eric Musselman had shoulder surgery on Thursday and is expected to miss at least two games starting Saturday’s game at LSU, the school announced.

Assistant Keith Smart will serve as interim coach.

A statement from Musselman’s doctor said he was injured in a collision with a player, and an MRI confirmed that Musselman’s tendons were torn and would require surgery. A plan to use daily physical therapy, treatments and steroid injections to delay surgery did not reduce pain or stabilize the shoulder. Surgery was chosen to limit the risk of further injury.

Arkansas are drawn to an 11-5 start but are 1-3 in SEC play.

They stand head and shoulders apart.
In other words, when 5-foot 7-inch Eric Musselman stands 7-0 next to Scott Thompson, his head is in line with Thompson’s shoulders.

But it is not long or short. They are also best friends, roommates, and teammates on the University of San Diego basketball team.

Silly how opposites attract. One of them, probably headed for the NBA, his best basketball is clearly ahead of him. He is insecure in his talent and ability to relate. He is as calm as a mouse, yet as big as a moose.

The second is headed for a 9 to 5 job, his best basketball clearly behind him. He is an extrovert – in that he takes extra time to get dressed in the morning. Why? He should ask everyone what he looks like. He is arrogant. And he should be. His father is a celebrity.
