Haase was born on December 18, 1992, in Detroit, Michigan, to Don and Lori Haase. He grew up in the Detroit suburb of Westland and would practice playing baseball at his childhood home. The Cleveland Indians selected Haase from high school in the seventh round of the 2011 MLB Draft, 218th round overall. He had previously committed to playing college baseball for the Ohio State Buckeyes, but chose to abandon that commitment in favor of accepting the Indians’ $580,000 signing bonus.
