England vs Andorra – 2022 FIFA Men’s World Cup Qualifier
England are back at the EE-affiliated Wembley Stadium in September, when they host Andorra in the European Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
Gareth Southgate’s team began their qualifying campaign in March with victories over San Marino, Albania and Poland.
And after this summer’s UEFA Euro 2020 exploits, in which the Three Lions reached their first major men’s senior international final since 1966, they resumed their road to next year’s World Cup in Qatar.
Vs Pol
England comfortably won a match in which they dominated with possession of the ball. The Poles didn’t give up and desperately looked for the equalizer, who came up with only two minutes to go. The match between Poles and England ended 1-1.
With 72 minutes on the clock, it was thought that Harry Kane had not served much. This was partly because the Eng captain was trying to provide it for others by stepping back from his centre-forward position to take over.
It was time for Kane to take matters into his own hands. The ball was worked for him at the top of midfield, and Kane was taken off with murderous intent, with the Poland players retreating very respectfully.
The best moment of the limited first half for England came when Raheem Sterling blasted Puchaz to cross but Kane could not find direction on his header behind Glick.
England took high starting positions in the second half, putting heavy pressure on the front foot and were able to create overloads. The tone changed. Grealish sent a cross-cum-shot behind the far post and Maguire led Luke Shaw to a free-kick against the post.
Throughout the piece, England did not make enough and Southgate would show an inability to get the number in the box. Kane found a way for it but that wasn’t enough.
Ladies Cricket Black Armbands
England will wear a black band during Wednesday’s Twenty20 match against South Africa in memory of former Glamorgan and daughter of England cricketer Steve James.
On Monday, James – now a reporter for the Times – announced the “sudden death” of 21-year-old Bethan.
He told the newspaper he was “honoured” by Eng “walking gesture”.
James, who played two Tests for Eng, scored around 16,000 first-class runs during his career.
He captained Glamorgan for three seasons before retiring due to injury in 2004.
Eng first T20 International against South Africa gets underway at 16:00 GMT at Buffalo Park.
