Emma Raducanu (born 13 November 2002) is a British professional tennis player. She holds the World No. 22 Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) ranking and is the current British No. 1. Raducanu is the current US Open champion, and the first British woman since Virginia Wade to win a Grand Slam singles title. At the 1977 Wimbledon Championships. She is considered a baseline player, known for her powerful, flat groundstrokes and aggressive returns to serve.

The 18-year-old revealed earlier this year that she frequents Romania.

“My grandmother, Mamiya, still lives in central Bucharest. I go back a couple of times a year, stay with him, see him,” she said.

“It’s really good. I love food, to be honest. I mean, the food is incredible. And my grandmother’s cooking is something special too. I belong to Bucharest.”

The world number 22, who will take part in the BNP Paribas Open this week, also gave a fluent interview in Mandarin shortly after her US Open success in September.

Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris stayed late on Saturday night to watch British teenager Emma Raducanu’s US Open victory, and her success proved infectious.
The McLaren pair finished a one-two at Sunday’s Italian Grand Prix, with Ricciardo ending the team’s nearly nine-year wait for victory.
A keen Formula One fan, Raducanu attended the British Grand Prix at Silverstone in July and says the always smiling Ricciardo is his favorite driver.

Ethnicity

Raducanu turned professional in 2018.  He alternated between junior and professional tournaments during 2018 and 2019.

In 2019 Raducanu participated in the Solapur Open in Maharashtra, India. She retired in the second round of Solapur Open Women’s ITF $25K tennis tournament. She won the ITF NECC-Deccan $25,000 tournament in Pune, India in December 2019.  In the Deccan Gymkhana Club final, she won against Naitha Bains in three sets. Her semifinal and quarterfinal victories came in three sets. It was his best title win before winning the 2021 US Open.

In 2020, several tennis events were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Raducanu participated in exhibition matches and small tournaments in the United Kingdom. She won the LTA British Tour Masters title in December 2020. She also devoted time to her academic studies, preparing for her A-levels (which she took in 2021).
