Entering 2007, he was rated by Baseball America as the No. 2 prospect in the Atlanta Braves organization. In 2009, Andrus earned the Texas Rangers starting shortstop job at the age of 20. He is a two-time All Star.

Contract

Andrus is owed $14 million in each of the next two seasons. The $120 million, eight-year contract he signed in 2015 includes a $15 million option for 2023 that now, because of the trade, becomes a player option if he has 550 plate appearances in 2022, or 1,100 combined in 2021-22.

Andrus married girlfriend Cori Febles in a ceremony at his home on June 1, 2017. The couple welcomed their first child, Elvis Emilio, on July 6, 2017. On November 28, 2018 they welcomed their second child, a girl, named Lucia Alessandra. For the 2019 season, Andrus adopted “Baby Shark” as his walk-up song because it reminded him of his children.

Andrus singled and scored the first run of the game on a double hit by Matt Olson in the third inning. He later singled in the ninth inning, scoring on a walk-off home run hit by Jed Lowrie. Andrus has picked up at least one hit in six of his last seven games.

Family

He has three siblings: Emily, Erikson, and Erold. Erold had a short-lived MLB career as an outfielder. Two of Andrus’ brothers remain in Venezuela. Andrus voiced concern about his home country during civil unrest in early 2014.

Andrus’ older brother Erold Andrus played in the independent leagues in 2009 and 2010 as an outfielder.
