Alyssa Kunen (born September 25, 2000) is an American professional basketball player. He played college basketball at NC State.

NC State coach Wes Moore has a theory.

“Hometown girl, man,” said Moore. “She plays well here. It goes back. I don’t know how old she was laying on the floor doing snow angels and balloons falling from the ceiling, so I guess it was good karma. Maybe He learned how to perform well on that court.”

Kunene, a Wolfpack senior center from nearby Summerfield and a product from North Guilford, has a lot going on this year, his final appearance in the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament.

In 10 career ACC tournament games at Greensboro, Kunane has had six 20-point appearances.

“Obviously Alyssa’s playing close to home here has been really great,” Moore said.

Kunane and top seed NC State will be aiming to claim a third straight ACC Tournament title on Sunday afternoon when they play No. 7 seed Miami. The Hurricanes defeated No. 10 seed Duke in the second round, then beat No. 2 seed Louisville in the quarterfinals to top No. 3 seed Notre Dame 57-54 in the semifinals on Saturday afternoon.

Cunanan came off the bench for most of his freshman season, while also coming back from a leg fracture in high school. [2] Despite being a bench player, she often played in late-game conditions and was a key player at the end of the Wolfpack season following an injury to regular starter Erica Barrett.

Kunene made 31 starts out of 32 games in which she appeared at an almost double-double average, as she also earned third-team All-American honors. He also holds the NC State single-season record for most free throws with 159.

In her junior season, Kunane started all 23 games she appeared in despite missing out on a month-long recovery from COVID-19. In his return, he scored 16 points and 6 rebounds in a 74–60 victory against No. 1 of Louisville. 

Kunene enters his senior season as one of the top prospects in the 2022 WNBA Draft.

The NC State Wolfpack has done everything possible in women’s basketball over the past few seasons except reaching the Final Four, and thanks to a post appearance in Alyssa Kunane who can handle games with her offense. We take a look at the newest member of the Seattle Storm, who finished second in ACC Player of the Year voting last season.

With some ability to shoot a 3 at 6’5, Kunen would be a stretch of 4 or 5 to the next level. But his low position ability and footwork should keep him in the job. She will need to show that she can tackle the physicality of pro basketball, especially against the best big players in the world on the block.
