2022 cancelled
One of the biggest gaming events in the world, the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) will not take place this year. Organizers have notified participating brands of cancellations in an email. The company said that the digital event for 2022 has been canceled. The video game event was earlier expected to be held in person this year. Then in January, the organizers announced that the event would be held online due to the rising COVID-19 cases at the time. Now it seems that the event has been canceled completely.
This comes after several video game industry professionals said they tested positive for COVID-19 after attending a game developers conference in San Francisco in the United States. In addition to concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, developers are also increasingly withdrawing from E3 to host their own events such as EA Play Live, Sony State of Play and Nintendo Direct. ESA, which organizes E3 every year, did not give the exact reason for canceling the event, but said it would return as an individual event next year in 2023. “We will put all of our energy and resources into a revitalized physical and digital E3 experience next summer,” ESA said in a statement.
