Championship
Drew League was founded in 1973 by Alvin Wills, who founded Charles R. Drew worked in middle school and initially counted 6 teams. The league’s popularity grew in the 1980s, with an increasing number of teams (10 in 1985, 14 in 1488) and several high-profile high schools, colleges, and sports. In 1987, Casper Ware Sr. scored 47 points in a Drew League championship game. In 1990, Ed Reid scored an all-time high for points scored in a single game with 64 established. During the 1992 Los Angeles riots, the organizers of the Drew League decided to keep the league open, offering support to the South Central Los Angeles community.

Looney was named the championship’s MVP after scoring 25 points and scoring 14 rebounds in a thrilling 92–91 overtime win against Public Enemy.
Wearing the number 34 jersey, Looney sent the game to overtime with a clutch tip-in at the end of regulation, bringing the crowd to their feet.
“Reporting Kevon Looney won my first Drew League championship. Two-time champion with the Golden State Warriors. Milwaukee to LA, way to represent,” Looney said after the win.
