Scouting report

Donte Divincenzo: Scouting report| Ethnicity| Parents| Position

DiVincenzo isn’t an advanced shot-maker, especially for myself. He was just 18 out of 5 from isolation. He’s also missing a floater from his repertoire, having scored two hits throughout the season. DiVincenzo doesn’t always play in control – his 2.7 turnovers per 40 minutes is high for a player, having used only 22.4 percent of Villanova’s assets when he was on the floor.

DiVincenzo should be used mostly to harass opposing point defenders. He has to bulk up to protect another 2s. He has the quickness, athleticism and anticipation to play the ball (1.4 steals per 40 minutes). DiVincenzo shows a willingness to do less, pressure and make life uncomfortable for his assignments. His reputation as a spark ultimately applies to both ends of the floor.

Ethnicity

DiVincenzo was dubbed the “Big Ragu” by sportscaster Gus Johnson after his last-second tip in a game on January 29, 2017 that led Villanova to a win against the University of Virginia. He was given the nickname because of his Italian heritage and his red hair. When Johnson came up with the nickname, he was probably referring to another “Big Ragu”, a character in the 1970s-80s sitcom Laverne named Carmine Ragusa.

Position

The Kings found a way to end the drama surrounding Deonte DiVincenzo, reducing the team to their potential qualifying offer.

Don’t extend her a merit offer at all.

The shooting guard came to Sacramento from the Bucks in the middle of last season, requiring only seven starts to meet the starter criteria, increasing his qualifying-offer amount from $6,602,272 to $7,921,301. The kings started him only once. Despite DiVincenzo playing more minutes per game in that period than the two, Sacramento regularly started Justin Holiday and Trey Lyles over DiVincenzo. (Since Holiday could comfortably play either wing position, Lyles in short forward or Divincenzo in shooting guard were viable options next to Halliday. Or Divincenzo in shooting guard and Lyles in short forward.) Sacramento’s lineup, if nothing else Well, that was messed up.
