Press Conference today:

At the Sixers’ media day on Monday, there was no elephant in the room.

Zero reporters visiting the team’s practise site in Camden, New Jersey, appeared hesitant to inquire about Ben Simmons, the three-time All-Star who has asked to be traded and is scheduled to skip training camp.

In these observations from Sixers head coach Doc Rivers and president of basketball operations Daryl Morey’s season-opening joint press conference, we’ll start with Simmons but also touch on a handful of other topics.

Rich Paul:

Ben Simmons has stated over and over he won’t play for the Sixers again, but the biggest issue is his contract, which is a robust five years and $170 million. That and the hefty haul Philly’s requesting in a trade for the former No. 1 overall pick, has made it difficult to move the disgruntled star.

Simmons is represented by Klutch Sports and NBA super agent Rich Paul. Yes, the same “RP” who also represents LeBron James and is currently dating superstar singer Adele.

Ben Simmons:

Ben Simmons made a surprise return to report to the Philadelphia 76ers on the eve of the regular season, but according to multiple reports, it doesn’t seem Simmons wants to be with the team.

On Tuesday, the Sixers announced Simmons has been suspended for one game for conduct detrimental to the team, which means he will miss Wednesday’s season opener against the Pelicans. Shortly after the Sixers’ announcement went public, reports emerged from various sources that Simmons had been thrown out of team practice on Tuesday.
