Press conference

At the Sixers’ media day on Monday, there was no elephant in the room.

Zero reporters visiting the team’s practise site in Camden, New Jersey, appeared hesitant to inquire about Ben Simmons, the three-time All-Star who has asked to be traded and is scheduled to skip training camp.

In these observations from Sixers head coach Doc Rivers and president of basketball operations Daryl Morey’s season-opening joint press conference, we’ll start with Simmons but also touch on a handful of other topics.

After Ben Simmons practised with the Philadelphia 76ers for the first time since ending his holdout on Sunday, head coach Doc Rivers gave reporters an update, saying he doesn’t believe Simmons is in game form yet.

“I’m not sure yet. I’m going to wait and see what happens. I’d say his conditioning, because just looking at him, I thought he was in good shape “Rivers remarked. “It’s still not in game shape. He’s capable of doing anything, but overall, yes.”

Trade to clippers

Doc Rivers

The Los Angeles Clippers completed a surprising trade with the Boston Celtics prior to the 2013-14 NBA season, giving a first-round pick in exchange for head coach Doc Rivers. It handed Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, and DeAndre Jordan a championship coach to head the Clippers’ star-studded team.

Rivers is well-liked throughout the league and is credited with transforming the Clippers’ culture. He was acquired by the Lakers in a trade with the Celtics in June 2013 for an unprotected 2015 first-round draught selection. In the last two seasons of his Clippers contract, Rivers is owed more than $18 million.
