Dmitry Yuryevich Bivol (BEE-vol, Russian: итрий рьевич ивол; born 18 December 1990) is a Kyrgyz-born Russian professional boxer who has held the WBA light-heavyweight title since 2017. As an amateur, he won a gold medal. 2013 World War Games in the 81 kg weight category. Highlights
Bivol (18-0, 11 KO) won with scores of 115-114, 115-113 and 118-110. The first two cards will be criticized by some for being too close, perhaps; Bad Left Hook fought 116-112 for Bivol, who won the first eight rounds on our card before Richards (16-2-1, 9 KO) won the last four, mostly at the rate of work.
Richards, 31, really prided himself with a solid performance in a big underdog space where no one expected him to be so competitive, let alone a win. And he certainly didn’t deserve the win here, but he kept to himself the whole time. Even in the losing rounds, he was second only to Bivol, but hardly completely out-classed or doing much work or anything.

Bivol (19-0, 11 KO) recently moved from Russia to the U.S. Arrived, which invaded Ukraine on 24 February and remained in combat. The 31-year-old will live stateside and train in Indio, Calif., ahead of his WBA Light Heavyweight Title defense against Alvarez at DAZN pay-per-view on May 7 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
“I have a lot of friends in Ukraine,” Bivol said at a kickoff news conference promoting the fight in San Diego on Wednesday. “I have a lot of friends in Russia. My family is in Russia.”
Bivol, whose parents moved to St Petersburg when he was 11, said he had “a lot of friends everywhere” and wished him “only peace and only the best”.
“It’s really sad for me,” he said. “Every day I wake up and read the news and I hope it stops.”
The WBA, which has been titled Bivol at £175 since November 2017, announced a series of sanctions on Monday in response to Russia’s attack on Ukraine. Among them, Russian and Belarusian boxers will not be allowed to enter the ring with their flag on, the national anthem will not be played and the boxers’ country will not be named.

After winning the undisputed super-middleweight title against Caleb Plant in November, the Mexican will move up to the light-heavyweight category to take on undefeated Russian Dmitry Bivol, one of the most influential fighters in the division.
Born in Kyrgyzstan and a Russian national, the 175-pound Bivol is 31 years old. He has been the WBA champion since 2016, first as an interim until 2017 when he was crowned champion. Since then he has made eight defenses and has largely dominated the division.
