Seahawks receivers DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett will both be active and are expected to start in Week 8 against the Giants, after testing their injuries during the pre-game warmup at Lumen Field.
Metcalf pulled out last Sunday with a knee injury in the first quarter of Seattle’s 37-23 win over the Los Angeles Chargers for failing to reel a potential touchdown catch from Geno Smith. Leaving on a cart, he was immediately ruled out and the team received a positive update on Monday, knowing that his patellar tendon injury would not require surgery. Still, coach Pete Carroll at the time was not optimistic about being able to play this weekend.
But after sitting out of practice on Wednesday and Thursday, Metcalf returned as a limited participant on Friday and two hours before kickoff could be seen running routes from a jugs machine on the sidelines as well as catching passes. . After recovering faster than expected, he will now be available to throw Smith’s sixth-order scoring defense against the Giants.
As for Lockett, the veteran receiver was already battling a hamstring injury before suffering a separate oblique injury during Thursday’s practice. After sitting out on Friday, he clearly turned the corner just enough for the Seahawks to play on Sunday.
While Metcalf and Lockett will get started, it will come as no surprise to see any player on a lower workload. Marquis Goodwin, D’Escridge and rookie receiver Dereke Young should see wide action, while Cade Johnson will also be available to make his NFL debut after being promoted from the practice team.
