Diontae Johnson: Contract| Combine| Fantasy| Draft
Diontae Lamarcus Johnson (b. July 5, 1996) is a professional American football wide receiver who plays for the National Football League’s Baltimore Ravens. He played collegiate football for the Toledo Rockets and was drafted in the third round by the Pittsburgh Steelers 2019 NFL draft. He has also played for Carolina Panthers.
Contract

Â
Diontae Johnson agreed to a two-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers worth $36,710,000 wherein he was given a bonus worth $17,500,000 and a guaranteed amount of $27,000,000 as well as an annual salary of about $18,355,000. For the year 2024, Johnson has been reported to earn a base salary amounting to $3,888,890 and will bear a cap hit of $3,888,890 and a dead cap value of $3,888,890.
Combine
On Tuesday, the Panthers were still going back and forth, shifting their future draft inventory by swapping future picks. This time they swapped a pick for the 2025 NFL Draft.
The team also offloaded wide receiver Diontae Johnson along with a sixth round pick to the Ravens in exchange for a fifth round pick.
With 30 receptions for 357 yards and three touchdowns, the 28-year-old Johnson was the Panther’s top receiver through the first seven games of the season. Last week, he was absent in the match against the Denver Broncos due to an oblique problem.
He was brought in March in a contract expiration deal with the Pittsburgh where Jackson and a sixth round draft were sent there for Johnson and a seventh. With this pick they selected linebacker Michael Barrett, subsequently trading him to Seattle for cornerback Mike Jackson who has started in their 8 matches so far in this season.
Fantasy
During 2024 there is an odd number of injuries to this wide receiver position which is why there is a lot of talk surrounding the position during the NFL trade deadline. This has already started to affect the fantasy football world in a big way. The last player to be traded was Johnson who was sent from the panthers to the Ravens.
For those managers that were expecting a better situation for Johnson after the trade; good luck, his value in Baltimore will be very limited.
It is difficult to assess him too harshly when all he did was hustling through a horrible Carolina Panthers offense throughout all the years he has been in the game. However, some things are pretty characteristic of what we have seen for most of his career. Volume has always been the name of the game for him to get fantasy points, efficiency multi played almost not existent.
In his first six NFL season, Johnson averaged only 6.8 yards per target and he has been able to cross the 7.0 mark only once since his rookie season. To put this into perspective, there are 91 qualifying receivers who average higher than 6.8 this year.
Draft
The Panthers keep their first round, third round, fourth round, fifth round and sixth round selections on their own. Carolina has got second-rounder from the Los Angeles Rams due to a 2024 draft day deal and had sent its second rounder to the Chicago Bears as part of the Bryce Young deal.
Carolina trades Brian Burns and receives a 5th round pick from New York Giants.
Their seventh round pick situation is currently in a changing situation. According to the website of the Panthers, Darin Gantt mentions they will have “their own seventh, unless it is less than” the July selection from the Cardinals or “the seventh from Arizona unless it is less than that from Carolina”.
Gantt then added that the Kansas City Chiefs “will receive the better of the two sevenths but only one will be issued”.
