World Cup 2023

Opening batsman Devon Conway has become Chennai Super Kings’ second highest scorer in a single season of the Indian Premier League.

Ahead of the ODI World Cup, New Zealand took part in two practice matches – against Pakistan and South Africa – and scored over 300 on both occasions.

The team’s opening batsman Devon Conway believes that scoring over 300 could be ideal in this edition of the ICC event starting in Ahmedabad from October 5.

“In the last two matches, we played on very good surfaces. If that’s the case, there will be scores over 300 in the World Cup, especially if the surfaces are good,” Conway said.

In the first warm-up match in Hyderabad, New Zealand easily chased down Pakistan’s 345 and continued their dominance against South Africa to reach 321 for 6 at the Greenfield International Stadium on Monday. While the wickets were different, for the Kiwis, it was all about ‘assessing the conditions very early’.

“Today, we noticed that there was not as much bounce as compared to the previous wickets that we played on. Therefore, it is important to assess early and build partnerships. If we excel in our partnerships, we as a batting group can always make a big impact at the end of the innings. We need to bat accordingly. If the wickets are good, we have to accept that we will catch up in the end,” Conway, who scored 78, said.
