Patriots

In a rare trade between AFC East rivals, the New England Patriots have acquired Miami Dolphins wide receiver DeVante Parker and a 2022 fifth-round draft pick in exchange for a 2023 third-round pick.

The Dolphins’ acquisition of Tyrek Hill and the free-agent signing of Cedric Wilson Jr. made Parker expendable. Miami will now have two first-round selections, one second-round and two third-round players in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Meanwhile, Parker could be a top choice for Patriots second-year quarterback Mac Jones, joining a receiving corps that includes top returnees Jacoby Meyers, Nelson Agholor and Kendrick Bourne.

The Patriots inherit the remaining two years of Parker’s contract, which sees him earn a base salary of $5.65 million in 2022 and $5.7 million in 2023.

Combine

DeVante Parker, one of the top wide receivers in the 2015 NFL Draft, was a limited participant in Louisville’s Pro Day on Wednesday.

Parker, Amari Cooper and Kevin White, among others, are battling for draft placement at one of the deepest positions in the class. He had a solid all-around performance at the NFL Scouting Combine, highlighted by a 4.45-second run in the 40-yard dash.

Cardinal Sports’ Howie Lindsay reported that Parker spent some time talking with a scout for the Minnesota Vikings:

It’s an interesting connection because the Vikings feature former Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater and need the position.

Last month, Chris Thomson of St. Paul’s Pioneer Press passed on Parker’s comments about potentially replaying with Bridgewater. He spent three years together with the Cardinals starting in 2011.

“It would be really nice to be reunited with (Bridgewater),” Parker said. “We have a good connection. That would be a good thing.”

Once the workout began, Parker opted to run 40. It is a judgment that there are many possibilities if they are comfortable with the number posted in combination. A number in the 4.40s is good enough for a player of his size (6’3”, 209 pounds).

Is good

“DeVante has a very, very good skill set,” Belichick said in 2020. “He’s a big athlete who runs well. Good hands. Good run-after-the-catch ability and good agility for his size. He’s a lot of trouble on the deep ball. He cuts, on the intermediate routes. , crossing routes and things like that. He’s strong and can break tackles as a catch-and-run player, so he attacks on all three levels of defense and can be productive in all three positions .

Parker must immediately help the Patriots. He joins Jacobi Meyers, Kendrick Bourne and Nelson Agholor as the top receivers on the team. This trade may affect Aghor’s playing time. Although they are different – Agholor relies on speed while Parker relies on his size and strength – both are considered X receivers.

This trade can also affect n’kill Harry, another big receiver who relies on his size to make plays. Harry asked for a trade last season but that never happened. The team also features Christian Wilkerson, Trey Nixon, Malcolm Perry and Ty Montgomery on the depth chart.

The move could also have an impact in the 2022 NFL Draft, which is scheduled for April 28-30. Although the Pats are showing interest in a lot of receiver possibilities, Parker makes the trade position less of a necessity.

2021 stats

DeVante Parker had an injury-zone debut in his NFL career after being drafted 14th overall in 2015. He continued to struggle with injuries after starting only 12 games in his first two seasons. 2019 was his breakout season at the age of 26 where he had 1,202 yards and nine touchdowns. Parker will try to turn his career around and produce stats that we know he can do. Being in Miami he should also see all the goals he can handle.
