Suspension ruling

The NFL has been investigating Deshan Watson for more than a year now, and that investigation took center stage at a hearing this week, during which it will soon determine whether to violate the NFL’s personal conduct policy. Whether or not Watson should be suspended.

The hearing began Tuesday and, as CBS Sports NFL Insider Josina Anderson reports, officially ended Thursday evening. Now, after the NFL and the NFLPA have each laid out their cases, Watson’s fate rests in the hands of the league’s jointly appointed disciplinary officer, Sue L. Robinson. She will decide whether Watson has violated the NFL’s personal conduct policy. If she did, she would also decide how long she should be suspended.

Solis

Ashley Solis is a massage therapist who previously accused Deshaan Watson of assault after being indicted in the “Jane Doe” trial.

Solis claimed that since her meeting with Watson, she has been unable to massage without shivering and had to shorten the sessions.

Solis was formerly known as Jane Dos.

Massage

Watson is facing 24 active civil lawsuits filed by massage therapists, each detailing graphic accounts of sexual assault and sexual assault during massage therapy sessions. The accounts include Watson allegedly refusing to try to force his genitals into the quarterback to “touch [a plaintiff] with his penis and perform oral sex on him.”

According to Vrentus, the 66 women included 24 plaintiffs as well as two women who filed criminal complaints against him, though they did not prosecute him. One of the women filed a lawsuit against Watson, but withdrew her complaint due to “privacy and security concerns” when judges ruled that the plaintiffs had to reveal their identity. The 66 also includes 15 therapists who gave statements of support for Watson—requested by his lawyers—and at least four therapists from Texan-contracted massage therapy group Genuine Touch. Five were identified during the investigation of the trial by plaintiff’s lawyers, and at least 15 other women were confirmed through interviews and records obtained by The Times.

Why is getting traded

“If the league’s investigation determines that Watson has violated the Personal Conduct Policy, discipline may be imposed in accordance with the policy and the CBA.”

Watson requested a trade from Houston prior to the allegations. He was inactive for all 17 games during the 2021 NFL season.

Watson confirmed that he is moving to Cleveland via a Friday post on Instagram.

Watson’s no-trade clause gave him the ability to take business discussions to their next destination.

The Texans selected Watson in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He has made three Pro Bowls during his career and led the NFL in passing (4,823 yards) during the 2020 season.

With the expected addition of Watson, the Browns are now hoping to trade former No. 1 overall draft pick Baker Mayfield, who on Thursday requested a trade from the organization that drafted him in 2018.

Rapoport explained that Mayfield is not expected to be part of the business package for Texans, and will be offered as part of a separate transaction.

With Watson heading north to AFC, the Saints, Falcons and Panthers will regroup and evaluate their current QB rooms.

Rapoport reported that the Falcons will turn their attention to longtime starter and former AP NFL Most Valuable Player Matt Ryan to make him feel wanted while considering his options. It was previously reported that the Falcons and Ryan had agreed to a contract restructuring to free up $12 million worth of pay-cap space.
