Hours after Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross brushed off questions about a potential interest in Houston Texans quarterback Deshan Watson, a new report from Houston Chronicle reporter John McClain indicated that Watson and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell were the only things to do. Businesses that are now standing in the way.

Per McClain, the Dolphins and the Texans have agreed on compensation and Ross signs the deal, but on the condition that Watson settle his legal issues stemming from the 22 allegations of sexual misconduct and that he receives some sort of pointer from Goodell. Whether and for how many games Watson will be suspended under the league’s personal conduct policy.

Goodell addressed Watson’s situation at owners’ meetings on Tuesday, though he did not offer much clarity.

“We don’t have all the access to that information and pride ourselves on not interfering with it,” Goodell said. “That process is ongoing … we don’t think we have the information we need to put him on the exempt list.”

Of course, that doesn’t mean Watson can’t end up on the exempt list or even be suspended at some point, which brings uncertainty to the whole situation.

Fantasy

Deshan Watson is healthy and has the potential to be a top five fantasy football player, but he is sitting on the strings of exemptions in most leagues this year. We all know why, but with the NFL’s trade deadline coming to an end and Watson trade rumors heating up, it’s likely the star QB adds Top 8 fantasy discount wire pickups and free agents. Luckily, there are some players who are actually playing, who are worth playing this week as well. Miles Sanders-backups Kenneth Gainwell and Davante Adams’ “handcuffs” Alan Lazard will probably need claims, but Yahoo and ESPN will see most of this week’s pickups as free agents after discounts on the league Wednesday around 4-5 a.m. ET. will be targeted. (Update: Lazard is also on the COVID list and unlikely to play, giving Randall Cobb more upside as the Packers’ top receiver.)

Our full free agent list includes more worthwhile pickups and stashes like Rashod Bateman, Boston Scott, Russell Gage, CJ Uzoma and Michael Gallup, but most can be found at the end of the price list where we host many QB, WR, Potential Week 8 streamers on TE, and D/ST. Plus, if you’re wondering if you should drop Justin Tucker during his goodbye week, you can get answers and find a replacement with the help of our 8 Week Kicker Rankings.

Steelers

Could the Houston Texans and Pittsburgh Steelers be business partners…not likely.
The Houston Texans have Deshaan Watson available to trade, but even if Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is battling a pec injury, that doesn’t mean Pittsburgh will cut his history off using first-round draft picks.

For any team to acquire Texans quarterback Deshan Watson in a trade during the season or next season, that team would have a hefty price to pay for a quarterback that has Watson’s ability. Remember that when he is on the football field he is one of the best quarterbacks in the league.

A potential trade for Watson comes to mind only because Roethlisberger is 39 and has already been hit hard in the first two games of the season. Roethlisberger has already been dismissed four times in the first two games of this season, and has hit even more.

With all the previous injuries the Steelers quarterback has suffered in his 18 seasons in the NFL with Pittsburgh, he eventually has to retire and the Steelers need a Plan B in position.

Now here comes the crazy scenario… Will the Houston Texans be able to trade Deshan Watson to the Steelers this off-season? Although the Steelers’ future at quarterback is not Roethlisberger for the long term, acquiring Watson would cost the Steelers a lot of draft capital, and also the players on their roster.
