Wikipedia

Rose was born and raised in Chicago and attended Simeon Career Academy and he was heavily recruited by colleges and eventually opting to join the University of Memphis under coach John Calipari. Rose led the Tigers to the most wins in NCAA history (a 38–2 record), their first No. 1 ranking in 25 years, and one appearance in an NCAA championship game. In 2009, an NCAA investigation revealed that Rose’s SAT scores were invalid, but as a result, the NCAA evacuated the entire 2007–08 season of Memphis.

Rose has been battling significant knee injuries since his 2010–11 MVP season. In the first round of the 2012 NBA playoffs against the Philadelphia 76ers, Rose tore his ACL in his left knee. Rose required surgery and was later sidelined for the entire 2012–13 season.

Injury

The Knicks’ last hope of saving the season has been dashed because Derrick Rose was out again before coming back. According to a source, Rose visited an ankle specialist after the team practice and was found to have more damage to his right ankle.

On the verge of return on Sunday from ankle surgery to remove a bone spur in December, Rose dubbed “a minor procedure” on her ankle with a timetable that has yet to be determined.

Professional Career

Rose was selected with the first overall pick in the 2008 draft by the Chicago Bulls and he was assigned to the U.S. Navy to prepare for the national team for the Olympics in Beijing and was selected in the selection team.

Rose became the first Bulls draftee since Michael Jordan to score 10 points or more in his first 10 games,  and earned Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month honors for November and December.  During All-Star Weekend, Rose played in the Rookie Challenge and won the Skills Challenge, where he defeated multiple All-Stars and became the first rookie to claim the trophy.  After overcoming the January and February slump, Rose returned to form and won monthly rookie honors in March. Meanwhile, the Bulls, reactivated by the trade deadline takeover of John Salmons and Brad Miller, finished the regular season on a 12–4 pace to qualify as the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference. Rose won Rookie of the Year, joining Michael Jordan (1985) and Elton Brand (2000) as the only Bulls to do so.
