Prediction

Derrick Lewis: Prediction| Walkout song| Full fight

A heavyweight matchup between two finish-reliant brawlers with poor cardio can only play out in one of two ways: quick finishes or geeky slope-fests.

Surprisingly, these fighters are jointly 7-2 on the scorecard. But one must imagine that Lewis would benefit from a close, low-volume fight in his home state of Texas.

While Lewis isn’t a technical fighter or best-of-the-minute winner, his presence and power still represent a serious step forward in the competition for Pavlovich relative to the Russian’s previous opponents.

Lewis has competed with the world’s best heavyweight for nearly a decade, and Pavlovich’s best win—over an aged Shamil Abdurkhimov—is someone Lewis who was knocked out in the fourth round in 2016.

The experience and strength of the program certainly point to Lewis, though he could certainly be reaching the end of his career.

However, the opposite is likely to happen here as well. Pavlovic’s lone loss came after a takedown and ground end pound from Alistair Overeem.

Lewis used the same traveling technique in his last two encounters against Chris Doukas (leading to a knockout) and Tai Tuiwasa (leading to a pair takedown). If he can put Pavlovich against the cage, take him down and make some big shots, it could be a wrap.

And Lewis owns the chance of a puncture, of all the chances of a puncture in any matchup.

Walkout song

Derrick Lewis walks out to sing ‘Tops Drop’ by rapper Fat Pat before his fight against Curtis Blades at UFC Vegas 19. ‘The Black Beast’ used the same song last August when he went out to fight Alexei Olenik, and also against Ilir Latifi at UFC 247.
