Derek Dallas Carr (born March 28, 1991) is an American football quarterback for the Las Vegas Raiders of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Fresno State, where he received first-team All-MWC honors twice, and was selected by the Raiders in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. A three-time Pro Bowl selection, Carr helped the Raiders reach the playoffs during the 2016 season, the franchise’s first appearance since 2002. He steered Las Vegas to another post-season berth in 2021.

Derek Carr’s deep third-down pass jumped into the hands of Mack Hollins and the Las Vegas bench area in the Raiders’ early possession in New Orleans on Sunday.
This could be the Raiders’ best chance to get anything done on a miserable afternoon for Carr and coach Josh McDaniels.

Carr never guided Las Vegas into midfield before he was drawn with 3:33, a 24–0 loss to the Saints of the Raiders. He was dismissed three times and scored 15 of 26 for 101 yards – the lowest output of his nine-year career for a game he did not leave early with an injury.
Carr, 31, now has the lowest quarterback rating since 2017 at 86.8.
He said, ‘It is shameful. “We can’t have that. That should never happen, especially with that group of people in that locker room. We’re so much better than that.”
The Raiders (2-5) hired McDaniels, Tom Brady’s offensive coordinator, for 11 years in two stints with the New England Patriots, to make the most of Carr in January, in yard passing, completion and touchdown The career leader of the franchise.
Despite those numbers, the Raiders made it to the playoffs for only the second time with Carr last season, losing in the wild-card round to Cincinnati.
The McDaniels-Carr marriage hasn’t produced results yet. After losing four of their first six games by a total of 14 points, the Raiders struck down in the Big Easy.
Questionable
Raiders coach John Gruden called Carr a suspect for this Sunday’s game against Miami. He said the retreat of Josh Jacobs is “very questionable” for Sunday’s game. Jacobs was inactive for this past weekend’s game against the Steelers with toe and ankle injuries. In his Raiders Week 1 victory over the Ravens, Jacobs ran for two touchdowns for 34 yards and 10 carries.
While he labeled Carr as suspicious, Gruden is optimistic that his starting quarterback will be at the center of Sunday’s game.
“I think he’s going to be able to play,” Gruden said via ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Carr’s 2021 season is off to a sensational start. The three-time pro bowler has so far thrown 817 yards, the most in the history of the franchise in the span of two games. He has bowled four touchdowns against just one interception, while helping the Raiders start 2-0.

Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr suffered a ruptured fibula in Week 16 against the Indianapolis Colts, according to Jimmy Durkin of the Bay Area News Group.
On December 26, Adam Schaffter revealed that Carr would have surgery and would be out for six to eight weeks.
Carr took to Twitter on Tuesday to thank fans for their support after his surgery:
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday that Carr is “considered an excessively long shot” for a potential Super Bowl appearance. Rapoport said that with six weeks until the game, “it doesn’t seem realistic.”
Carr’s brother David confirmed Thursday that there was no ligament damage, according to Scott Baer of CSN California.
Prior to injury, he had thrown for 228 yards and three touchdowns.
Carr made a big improvement in his rookie season in 2015, throwing 3,987 yards, 32 touchdowns and 13 interceptions and making his first trip to the Pro Bowl. Football Outsiders ranked him 12th among qualified QBs in DYAR (defense-adjusted yards above replacement) – one place behind MVP winner Cam Newton.
In 2016, the 25-year-old took another step forward in his development. He has built a strong MVP-caliber campaign (3,933 yards, 28 touchdowns, six interceptions) after helping the Raiders secure their first winning season since 2002.
Carr exemplified his qualification for Oakland in the team’s 35–32 victory over the Carolina Panthers in 12 weeks. He injured his right pinky finger during the game and returned to throw a game-tying touchdown pass and position Sebastian Janikowski in a game-winning field goal.
Many players have had a hand in the Raiders’ success, but Carr was the one who at least couldn’t afford to lose to Oakland. Without him at center, Matt McGloin assumes the starting quarterback job.
