Derek Brunson took on Jared Cannonier in a highly anticipated middleweight matchup at UFC 271. After suffering a first-round knockdown, Cannonier mounted an impressive comeback to score a second-round TKO victory.

Derek Brunson unsurprisingly resorted to his wrestling from the beginning, landing two takedowns in the very first round. Although Cannonier did a decent job of defending, Brunson consistently kept the pressure on him.

Walkout song:

The lineup did hold on to 10 bouts and was headlined by Derek Brunson (“10K” by KB) and Kevin Holland (“Beat Box 3” by SpotemGottem featuring Da Baby).

That is his walkouts. Lewis loves walking out to the song “Tops Drop” by Fat Pat. He has walked out to this song for his fights at UFC 247, UFC Fight Night 174, UFC Fight Night 185, and UFC 265. According to Lewis, he will always walk out to Fat Pat’s song for his UFC walkouts.

In 2018, Adesanya beat Brunson via TKO, the last loss Brunson suffered. With Whittaker looking like a much different fighter compared to the Adesanya bout three years ago, Brunson believes this fight will be one to watch.

The Killa Gorilla’ was saved by the bell as the Wilmington native attempted a rear-naked choke after dropping him with a flush right hand late in the round.

Sherdog:

The 37-year-old Brunson is currently in the midst of the second five-bout winning streak of his UFC tenure. That stretch includes triumphs over the likes of Darren Till, Kevin Holland and Edmen Shahbazyan in headlining appearances in his last three outings.

The North Carolina native previously authored a five-bout winning streak from August 2014 to September 2016 before losing four of his next six inside the Octagon.
