Deontay Wilder knocked out Robert Helenius in the first round on Saturday night, making a strong return to the winning column after consecutive losses to Tyson Fury.
The former heavyweight champion moved carefully for most of the round before opening his right arm, which has long been considered the best in the business. He knew he had stood up against the ropes even before the fight was over.

“When you fight Deontay Wilder, you have to have your A-plus-plus game,” Wilder said.
Wilder (43-2-1, 42 KO) took an emphatic victory in his first fight since being stopped twice by Fury, the latter having risen from Fury’s two knockdowns in the 11th round last October.
But Hellenius (31-4) was not getting up from a straight right hand that ended the match with three seconds remaining in the first round at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Fury was able to deal with the power of Wilder and he has so far been the only one getting up from a total of four knockdowns in his three fights. But Helenius was not in that class.
He used his nearly 40lb edge to take Wilder back for more rounds, and when Wilder won on the right, he ended the Finnish fighter’s hopes of getting close to a title shot.

Former World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder returned with a knockout win over Robert Helenius on Saturday night. The match took place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, and proved to be Wilder’s first victory after several battles with undisputed heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.
In the first round, Wilder struck a forceful punch on Hellenius in the first round, sending his opponent into oblivion. The victory served as a strong reminder that the former conqueror was still one of the most feared men to ever walk this side of heaven. And what’s even more scary for the split is that Wilder is well aware of this fact!
In a post-fight interview, Wilder stated that he is back and making the heavyweight division exciting again. It was his first loss with the Hellenius since his loss against Tyson Fury last October, his second in the fiercest trilogy in the history of the sport. The two defeats against Fury are the only ones in Wilder’s professional boxing career.

After a grueling trilogy of fights with Tyson Fury that saw Wilder suffer the first two losses of his professional career, “The Bronze Bomber” proved what was in the tank right now with a disastrous first-round knockout from Robert Helenius at Barclays Center. There is also some left. Saturday in Brooklyn, NY.
In true Deontay Wilder fashion, the ending came courtesy of a vicious punch.
“Who’s next?” Wilder asked after only needing to land three punches before finishing the job. “I’m down for anything. Whether it’s Andy Ruiz, Oleksandr Usik or whoever. I’m back.”
Wilder, 36, improved 43-2-1 to get his 42nd knockout. He faced a former sparring partner, who was running away with a pair of knockouts on Adam Konecki before finding himself on the canvas and staring at the lights courtesy of Wilder’s right hand.
Though Wilder came up short against Fury, the power is undeniable. He is easily one of the most devastating punchers in heavyweight history.
What is in the future for him is up in the air. Fights with Ruiz and Usyk, or a megafight with Anthony Joshua, are all possible.
However, one thing is for sure: the bomb squad still has something to say.
