Why did get disqualified

But Hamlin’s No. 11 Toyota and Bush’s No. 18 Toyota failed inspection after the race. Brad Moran, managing director of the NASCAR Cup Series, told reporters that the front fascia of both cars contained illegal material and Moran said drivers were allowed to appeal against disqualification.

Had the original results been out, Hamlin would have tied Elliott for the Cup Series point lead. Instead, Elliott extended his lead by securing his fourth win of the season and his third win in the last five races. Elliott has now finished first or second in each of the last five weeks.

Tyler Reddick moved to second place after the ruling. Daniel Suarez, Christopher Bell and Kyle Larson made the new top five.

Disqualification

Pocono NASCAR Cup Series winner Denny Hamlin and runner-up Kyle Busch were disqualified for violating rules after their cars were inspected after the race.

Joe Gibbs Racing teammates were both stripped of their results.

“Some issues were discovered that affect the aero in the vehicle,” said NASCAR Cup Series managing director Brad Moran, referencing the front fascia of the cars.

“There really was no reason there was some material that shouldn’t have been somewhere. And that basically comes down to a DQ.”

Denny Hamlin thought he would win his seventh race at Pocono Raceway.

The decision handed the official victory to third-placed Chase Elliott but can be appealed.
Similar rules violations were found in Hamlin and Bush’s cars.
Both cars will be sent to NASCAR’s RD Center in North Carolina for further evaluation.

Hamlin temporarily became a seven-time winner for the first time at Pocono Raceway and also tied Tony Stewart on the all-time Cup Series win list with 49 before the win was scrapped.

Chase Elliott was promoted from third to first with Hamlin and Bush disqualifications.
