Demerius Anton Thomas (December 25, 1987 – December 9, 2021) was an American professional football player who was a wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL) for ten seasons, primarily with the Denver Broncos. He played college football for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, and was drafted by the Broncos in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft. With Denver, Thomas made four Pro Bowls and won Super Bowl 50 against the Carolina Panthers. He also played for the Houston Texans, New England Patriots and New York Jets.

American football player Demerius Antvon Thomas was born on Christmas Day 1987 in Montreux, Georgia, USA. He is the son of Bobby Thomas and Katina Smith. Thomas raised with his aunt and uncle because when a child, his mother and grandmother were arrested and sentenced to 20 years in prison and life imprisonment respectively for crack distribution. As a child, Thomas’ uncle nicknamed him “Bay Bey” in reference to the bad kids from the movie Babe Kids. Demerius Thomas, a former All-Pro wide receiver for the Broncos, died on Thursday. According to an Associated Press report by Paul Newbery, Thomas’ family believes he suffered a stroke while bathing, which led to his death.

Thomas last played in the NFL in 2019 and officially announced his retirement in June ’21. He spent most of his career with Denver, earning a pair of All-Pro selections and four trips to the Pro Bowl.

Roswell, Ga., police said in a Friday statement that “preliminary information is that he died of a medical problem, and our investigators currently have no reason to believe otherwise.”

Thomas’s cousin Latonya Bonsignur, with whom he was extremely close, highlighted the recent health problems he was facing at the time of his death on Thursday.

“He had been suffering from seizures for over a year, and we believe he had the seizure while he was taking a shower,” Bonsignor said on Friday, per the AP. “We’re not sure when he died. We just spoke to him yesterday

Demerius Thomas, who earned five straight Pro Bowl honors and a Super Bowl ring during an illustrious career spent with the Denver Broncos, has died at the age of 33.

Tim Lupo, a public information officer for the Police Department in Roswell, Georgia, said Thomas was found dead Thursday night at his suburban Atlanta home.

“Preliminary information is that he died of a medical problem, and our investigators currently have no reason to believe otherwise,” Lupo said in a statement early Friday.

Thomas grew up with and was so close that they considered themselves siblings, with first cousin Latonya Bonsignur telling the Associated Press that the family believed he died of a seizure.

Roswell Police informed the family members at around 9 pm. EST that they found Thomas in a shower at his house.

“He had been suffering from seizures for over a year, and we believe he had a seizure while he was taking a shower,” Bonsignor said early Friday. “We’re not sure when he died. We just spoke with him yesterday.”

“He was alone and a friend couldn’t hold him, so he called his driver, who has the keys because of these seizures, and went to his house and found him in the shower,” she said.

Thomas attended West Lawrence High School in Dexter, Georgia, where he was a three-sport star in basketball, football, and track. He played wide receiver for the Raiders football team under then-head coach John Kenny.  As a junior in 2004, he recorded 32 receptions for 330 yards and three touchdowns. Thomas was named an All-Region and All-Heart of Georgia player. As a senior, he recorded 82 receptions for 1,234 yards and ten touchdowns. After the game, he took part in the North–South All-Star game. Thomas was again awarded an All-Star for Georgia. Area and All-Heart, and the Atlanta Journal Constitution named him to their Class AA All-State First Team and Prepstar to their All-Region Team. Scout.com rated him as the 22nd ranked college prospect in the state of Georgia, and Rivals.com ranked him the 34th ranked such prospect.  He received scholarship offers from Duke, Georgia, and Georgia Tech.
