COVID
JOHANNESBURG, Aug 4 (Reuters) – South Africa’s health regulator on Thursday reported a causal link between a man and Johnson’s death.
The person presented with rare neurological disorder Guillain-Barre Syndrome soon after being given J&J’s vaccine, after which the person was put on a ventilator and later died, senior scientists told a news conference.
“At the time of illness no other cause for the Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) could be identified,” Professor Hannelie Meyer said.
The person’s age and other personal details were not disclosed for confidentiality reasons.
Last July, U.S. authorities added a warning to a factsheet for J&J’s vaccine saying data suggested there was an increased risk of GBS in the six weeks after vaccination. At the time it noted 100 preliminary reports of GBS in vaccine recipients, including 95 serious cases and one reported death.
Funeral
The funeral of former Broncos player Demerius Thomas took place on Saturday morning.
The procession passed through the city of Dublin, Georgia.
A Facebook post from the city said, “His family has asked your city to honor him by lining Jackson Street and Bellevue Avenue as their procession marches from Dudley Funeral Home to West Lawrence High School.”
The post further said that Thomas’s mother has requested that those attending the procession wear their favorite colors – blue and green or orange and blue. Dublin Police will help with the procession.
Thomas formally announced this summer that he was retiring from the NFL after 10 seasons, the first nine with the Broncos.
He last appeared in public in August at Peyton Manning’s Pro Football Hall of Fame induction in Canton, Ohio.
Thomas died on 9 December in Roswell, Georgia.
