Jackson State coach Deion Sanders had a hot moment with Alabama State coach Eddie Robinson Jr. after the Tigers 26-12 over the Yellow Jackets on Saturday.

Following the conclusion of the game, Sanders met Robinson – who is not related to HBCU coaching legend Eddie Robinson – for a handshake in midfield. Although Robinson shook hands with Sanders, he reprimanded the Jackson State coach when he tried to hug him.

Video of the brief incident shows Robinson placing his hand on Sanders’ chest, before Sanders took his hand from hers.

Sanders looked confused by the confrontation, standing in place and raising his hands in the air with questioning gestures. After the game, he said Robinson’s disappointment could be “a lot of things”. Among them, he said it may be because his team was late and because of traffic from Birmingham to Montgomery he had not met with the coach before the game, according to Clarion Ledger.

Jackson State football and coach Deion Sanders played spoilers on Saturday at the Hornets’ homecoming 26-12 defeat of Alabama State. Then Alabama State coach Eddie Robinson Jr. spoiled Sanders after the game.

Sanders shook Robinson’s hand and tried to add a postgame hug, but Robinson rebuffed Sanders’ attempt in a moment that captured the stint of the Southwestern Athletic Conference rivalry.

“My exact words were, ‘Hey man, you got them to play. Nice game,'” Sanders said. “Shaked hands and tried to hug and he pushed. That’s it.”

After Robinson walked away, Sanders took a surprised look on his face and opened his palms. Robinson felt Sanders was disrespectful in the media for playing on the field and pregame during the pregame, he said.

“I thought there was a lot of humiliation throughout the week and so you wouldn’t be being insulted in the media all week,” Robinson said. “We didn’t talk in the pregame, I was out on the 50-yard-line the whole time. He walked through our flanks on our end zone, he went a long way to get to his side during the pregame, thought he Wasn’t classy at all.

Post game interview

There was a friendly exchange in the middle of the post-game between the popular SWAC coaches.

In the state of Alabama, Jackson State fought a hard-fought 26-12 on the road. But Hornets head coach Eddie Robinson Jr. wasn’t too happy to hug with Tigers head coach Deion Sanders.

As Sanders approached Robinson Jr., he shook hands, but as Coach Prime went to hug him, the ASU coach pushed him and snatched his hand from Sanders.

Sanders was stunned and looked around, wondering what had just happened in mid-field. Soon after, he walked into the Tigers’ locker room.

Robinson may have taken exception to Sanders’ ‘homecoming paycheck’ comments during Monday’s SWAC coaches press conference. Sanders indicated that Jackson State was only determined to obtain a sale to the State of Alabama and earn money from the Tigers’ trip.
