Brother

After weeks of speculation, it is increasingly likely that San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Dibo Samuel may be looking to move on.

First, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Tuesday that contract negotiations between San Francisco and Samuel had reached a “standstill” mainly because of Samuel.

“San Francisco will pay Deebo Samuel today,” Schaffter said. “I think right now Debo Samuel doesn’t want to make a deal. This San Francisco isn’t ready to do a deal. The 49ers are ready. Debo Samuel is the one who just put everything on hold.”

Later in the day, Deebo Samuel’s brother commented on a Facebook post saying that Deebo would request a trade.

Don’t worry we’re asking for a trade” is the first comment that Samuel’s brother, Tyquan, left in response to a fan who prompted San Francisco to trade the star wide receiver. Tyquan then added another comment, saying “he won’t be the 49er that matters”.

Death threats

Deebo Samuel’s exploits are well documented – he is an NFL unicorn, a wide receiver who runs back and is the type of player many NFL teams would try to imitate and fail to. But his future with the 49ers, at least for the time being, is up in the air with contract talks for a new deal yet to be completed. Samuel recently removed any reference to the 49ers from his Instagram page.

The latter has apparently prompted the 26-year-old star to receive death threats and racist comments.

“For all you fans out there who are into DMs [sending] death threats and racial stuff, this doesn’t bother me,” he posted in an Instagram story. “It’s not. Yes, they will be the ones who were hooray and ‘Debo go.’ Oh now you all want to send death threats and all these racial [things].

“It doesn’t bother me. I’m cool, chillin and happy.”

What team is on

Deebo Samuel would have reached his breaking point with the San Francisco 49ers.

The All-Pro wide receiver has requested a trade from the team, he told ESPN’s Jeff Darlington on Wednesday.

Samuel, 26, told Darlington that he did not want to reveal the specific motivations for his request, but relayed them to 49.

A second-round pick from South Carolina in 2019, Samuel posted a breakout season last year, compiling 1,770 yards from scrimmages and 14 touchdowns and establishing himself as one of the league’s most versatile offensive threats.

Samuel was not participating in the start of the 49ers’ voluntary off-season program, which began this week. He was set to enter the final year of his contract and earn about $3.9 million in base salary in 2022.

Samuel’s request comes in an offseason in which several wide receivers have signed rich extensions, with Tyrek Hill and Davante Adams topping the market after being traded to the Miami Dolphins and Las Vegas Raiders respectively.
