Where is team from
CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) — Excitement is building up at the big dance for the Davidson college basketball team in Friday night’s game against Michigan State.
Davidson People across the city are excited about the men’s basketball team returning to the tournament for the first time since 2018.
Many people spoke to WBTV that this could be a Steph Curry magical year for the team.
“I’m excited!” said Jared Herr, a student at Davidson College.
“He deserves to be in the tournament,” said Tom Gibbs, a Davidson fan, and Heather Taylor, another fan, said, “I’m looking forward to great things.”
Even though the students are out for spring break at Davidson College, there was a lot of anticipation for Friday night’s games—even at a local retirement home.
Davidson fan Jane Cobb said, “I’m going to stay, a lot of people are having a lot of trouble, they’re taking nodose so they can stay tonight.”
Of course, the students are sports-ready and take pride in seeing their school take on a national level.
“It represents us as students who don’t play sports, it puts our school on the map and I’m so excited, it’s like the next Steph Curry moment,” said Davidson College student Geo Echebri.
“We’re excited to see it, I’ve been watching Davidson in the tournament ever since Steph Curry was in it, I remember watching him and being here now and seeing him in March Madness, it’s gonna be great is,” Herr added.
Fans and students hope things go well for the Wildcats.
Who makes uniforms
Following in the footsteps of its most famous alumni, Davidson’s athletic department has signed a multi-year deal with Under Armour.
The sports apparel company will field 20 of Davidson’s 21 teams starting in the 2016-17 season. The Wildcats men’s basketball team will switch from Nike to Under Armor in 2018.
Former Wildcats star and current NBA Most Valuable Player Stephen Curry endorses Under Armour.
“I am extremely proud of my parent organization,” Curry said in a statement. “Davidson is an important part of my history and the journey of the NBA and I am thrilled that he has joined the Under Armour family.”
Davidson’s other teams are manned by different brands.
“This long-standing relationship provides us with the opportunity to tailor our teams and scholar-athletes to game-changing products while aligning with a brand that aligns Davidson with,” said Jim Murphy, Wildcats Athletics Director.
Other schools modeled by Under Armor include Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Navy, Maryland, Texas Tech, Northwestern, Cincinnati, Boston College, Utah, South Carolina, and Auburn.
