Brownlow medalist Adam Cooney believes playing prized Pick 1 Jason Horne-Francis in the VFL last week could be a “nail in the coffin” for David Noble’s return from suspension as North Melbourne coach Is.

It was widely reported on Tuesday morning that Noble is set to step down from his role amid the club’s dreaded 1-15 season, which included a 14-game losing streak, currently ranked 18th on the ladder.

Longtime football administrator Geoff Walsh was brought in last month to conduct a thorough review of the club’s football department.

David Noble has acknowledged that North Melbourne’s ongoing review and intense attention has been paid to him and the club has been “tough”, but believes he is still the right person for the job.

The under-fire coach suffered his 32nd defeat in charge of 38 matches on Saturday, but what his team has hidden in the past three months was far more encouraging than that.

The Kangaroos took a 28-point lead late in the third quarter and lost to Collingwood by seven points – their 14th consecutive loss – as speculation mounts that Noble’s days as coach may be numbered.
