Waiting for victoria
Former England captain David Beckham was seen standing in line to pay tribute to the Queen.
The 47-year-old former footballer was among those waiting to see King lying down, with many traveling far and wide. The queue had become so long that further people were barred from joining, expecting to wait for hours.
Beckham was seen in the background wearing a black hat as crowds flocked to London – many in the early hours of the morning – to stand and wait. Some even found themselves waiting for more than a full 24 hours to reach the front.
The Beckhams joined the queue at 2 a.m., and it appears that the star was not given any special treatment or queue-jumping abilities. The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star has a home in Miami, where he is one of the owners of Major League Soccer side Inter Miami, but he and his wife Victoria also own a million-pound property in London.
Queue lying in state
David Beckham joined thousands of mourners in London to see the Queen lying in state.
Fans enthusiastically shared their images of the football star on social media as they waited more than 12 hours to pay their respects while standing in line at Westminster Hall.
“I was very lucky that I was able to spend some moments in my life being around Her Majesty,” he told ITV News.
“A sad day but it is a day to remember the incredible legacy they left.”
Dressed in a gloomy black suit, navy coat and matching flat cap, the 47-year-old occasionally posed for selfies with fans and bought donuts for his fellow mourners.
“I grew up in a house of royals and that’s how I was raised,” he explained.
The former England footballer said he was representing his late grandparents there.
“I know they wanted to be here, so I’m here on their behalf and on behalf of my family,” he said.
