David John Shearer (16 October 1958 – 3 July 2022 ) was a Scottish former professional footballer who played as a forward. Shearer began his professional football career in the Scottish Highland Football League with his local club Klacchankuddin. His other professional clubs in the English Football League included Middlesbrough, Scunthorpe United and Gillingham. He made appearances in over 230 football leagues. He was the older brother of fellow former professional and Highland Football League player Duncan Shearer.

Shearer was born in Inverness and joined the borough from the Scottish Highland League organization Klacchankuddin. He scored twice against Chelsea on his debut for the club and scored a total of 30 goals in 112 appearances.
He played for the club during a spell in the First Division under manager John Neal, who replaced Jack Charlton at the helm of the Ayresome Park organization. A powerful, whole-hearted centre-forward, he scored his 23 goals in league games, including a total of four against the great Liverpool side of the day. He remained for a year under Neal’s successor Bobby Murdoch after the club faced relegation, but was sold to Grimsby in 1983 as the club’s financial troubles deepened.
