Dave is best known for his performances in WWE from 1986 to 2005, during which he served primarily as a referee and played backstage as a road agent during the later part of his career.
In February 1988, Hebner was part of one of the most famous angles in pro wrestling history, when Andre the Giant controversially defeated Hulk Hogan for the WWE Championship on The Main Event.
With Hogan’s shoulder up, the referee counted to three, causing another referee to run to challenge the decision, looking identical to the one in the ring.

On June 17, 2022, the wrestling world learned that Dave Hebner, the former WWE referee, as well as the company’s road agent, had died at the age of 73. Hebner died at his home in Mechanicsville, Virginia. His death stemmed from an undisclosed illness, which former race car driver Hermi Sadler spoke about on Twitter on May 28. It was also revealed that Hebner was suffering from Parkinson’s disease. In addition to being a referee and road agent for WWE, Hebner served as a wrestling promoter and authority figure. He was also the twin brother of fellow notable referee Earl Hebner.
