Davante LaValle Adams (born December 24, 1992) is an American football wide receiver for the Las Vegas Raiders of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Fresno State, and was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

Nine years after playing his last game at Franco State, Davante Adams’ jersey will be retired, the university announced Thursday. The distinction is rightfully deserved by Adams, who compiled 3,031 receiving yards, 233 catches and 38 touchdowns in his two seasons as the Bulldogs.
He is now one of nine players, including QB Derek Carr, to have his jersey retired from the school.
“We are honored to celebrate Davante Adams with this true tribute,” said Fresno State Athletics Director Terry Tumi. “Davante is one of the most dynamic playwrights in our proud and historic football program. His achievements here at Fresno State, in addition to his ongoing remarkable professional career, are truly commendable, but who will he be as a person for generations to come? Fresno will continue to have a positive impact on the state.
“We are excited to welcome Davante and his family back to Fresno State and their number 15 jersey will be proudly displayed inside Valley Children’s Stadium forever.”

The Packers have used the 22nd overall pick only three times in team history and only once in the past 78 years. That pick was a good one, however, as Green Bay picked Iowa guard Ron Hallstrom with that pick in the 1982 NFL Draft. Hallstrom did not start a game in his first two seasons, but would go on to become an eight-year starter for the Packers, playing nearly every game from 1984 to 1992, before moving into one final year with the Eagles before his retirement. The Packers’ other picks on 22 overall were Tom Kuzma back from Michigan in 1944 and Marty Schreier out of Purdue in 1938 (Cecil Isbell’s pick was 7th overall in the ’38 draft).

It’s simple: Davante Adams. The Packers made Adams the 53rd overall pick of the 2014 draft, and in a coincidence, the 53rd pick of this year’s draft was returned to the Las Vegas Raiders earlier this spring in exchange for a franchise-tagged Adams trade.
Green Bay’s only other 53rd overall pick was guard/linebacker Hank Bullough, the 53rd pick in 1955, who would play just two seasons for the Packers. However, he had a long career as the head coach and defensive coordinator of the NFL, and a long stint as the Packers DC from 1988 to 1991 under head coach Lindy Infante.

Appearing on The Pivot Podcast (Pro Football Talk’s Michael David Smith), Adams explained why he put the number 29 on his alarm clock as a daily reminder of what he’s following.
“I want to be in the hall,” Adams said. “He only has 29 in my position, and I find him on my alarm clock when I wake up.”
Adams is stepping out of the Pro Football Hall of Fame website, inducting 29 wide receivers. The 2022 update does not appear to have included Cliff Branch, who played 14 seasons for the Raiders from 1972 to 1985.
Still, it’s hard to argue with what he’s doing to make himself the best receiver in NFL history.
In his first eight seasons, Adams has racked up 8,121 yards and 73 touchdowns over 669 receptions. All those stats came while playing with Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers.
The 2022 season will be a great test to see how good Adams is when he’s not playing alongside one of the top quarterbacks in the game. He’s getting into a situation he’s at least somewhat familiar with. The two-time All-Pro played with Raiders quarterback Derek Carr for two seasons at Fresno State from 2012 to 2013.
Since the start of 2018, Adams has averaged 108 catches, 1,328 receiving yards and 11.8 touchdowns per season. The Raiders haven’t had a receiver record of at least 1,300 yards since Tim Brown in 1999.
Adams will officially begin the second phase of his career and will take the next step on his quest to reach the Pro Football Hall of Fame on September 11, when the Raiders play the Los Angeles Chargers at Sophie Stadium.
