Darius Kinard Garland (born January 26, 2000) is an American professional basketball player for the Cleveland Cavaliers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the Vanderbilt Commodores.

Contract

There have been a lot of positive developments for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the early stages of the 2021-22 season, and the growth of Darius Garland has been one of them.

Young players are one of the biggest reasons why the Cavs look like playoff contenders in the Eastern Conference.

While Garland’s top priority right now is likely to be getting his team through the postseason, it looks like this upcoming off-season could be life-changing for him.

“Garland, a potential All-Star candidate, is eligible for a five-year, $181.2 million maximum contract extension in July,” wrote Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Garland has shown signs of growth every year of his NBA career so far. For fans of the Cavs, they’ve been a lot of fun to watch.

This season, the 21-year-old averages 19.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 7.6 assists per game. He is shooting 46.9 percent from the field and 38.4 percent from beyond the arc.

Garland’s ability to deliver basketball is one of the most impressive elements of his game, and it’s something he’s clearly worked on a lot over the years. After averaging only 3.9 assists per competition in his rookie season, he leads the Cavs in assists per game this season.

Cleveland is going to have some big decisions to make this season as it concerns the futures of some star players, and fans can only speculate at this point about how the Cavs will see things. However, this season is making one thing very clear: Rebuilding the organization is in the works.

College

Garland entered the 2018–19 season as the best recruit to sign with Vanderbilt. He was the only freshman in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) to make the Precision All-Conference team. On November 6, 2018, in his first college game against Winthrop, Garland led all-scorers with 24 points. In a 79–70 victory over Liberty on November 19, he scored a season-high 33 points, the second most points by a freshman in school history. On 23 November, Garland injured his knee during the lay-up versus Kent State and left the game early. Four days later, Vanderbilt head coach Bryce Drew revealed that Garland would be sidelined for the rest of the season with a meniscus injury. On January 22, 2019, he announced that he would be leaving Vanderbilt to recover from his injury and prepare for the 2019 NBA Draft.  Garland was later among a total of 77 invited to participate in the NBA Draft Combine. became one. However, he left the program as early as May 15 on the assumption that he had been promised a selection by a team in the NBA Draft Lottery.
