Mother:
Garcia was born in North Philadelphia to Puerto Rican parents. His mother was from Bayamón and his father was from Naguabo.
Boxrec:
Garcia lost to Keith Thurman for the WBA welterweight title, to Shawn Porter for the WBC title, and to Errol Spence Jr. for the WBC and IBF titles.
The Spence fight was his most recent bout, which took place in 2020. Benavidez, an 11-time national champion, made his pro debut in 2010.
Highlights:
Roldan had the fight even, 114-114, while Glenn Feldman scored it 116-112 and Tony Paolillo 117-111, both in favor of Garcia. Bad Left Hook’s two unofficial cards were both 119-109 in Garcia’s favor.
Garcia (37-3, 21 KO) was making his 154 lb debut with this fight, and while he definitely is small at the weight, he boxed smart, looked fresh, looked like the break from boxing since the end of 2020 really did do him some good, and just outclassed Benavidez (27-2-1, 18 KO) for the most part.
Benavidez just wasn’t able to connect with much of note, though he did stick his tongue out plenty and make a lot of faces, repeating that Garcia wasn’t hurting him, though Garcia kept doing more and winning rounds.
Record:
Garcia (36-3, 21 KOs) will be facing an interesting test in the 30-year-old Benavidez (27-1-1, 18 KOs), whose questions regarding his current form outweigh the answers we have to construct an opinion as to just how much of a threat the native of Phoenix will be for Garcia.
